Since its inception in 1927 ORBA has enjoyed an open and cooperative working relationship with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. ORBA working committees meet regularly to consider changes to contract documents and specifications. Standing committees on hot mix asphalt, structures and grading meet regularly to review specifications changes and the ORBA Executive works closely with senior Ministry officials from the Provincial Highways Management Branch in monitoring the capital program and dealing with policy-related issues. ORBA issues also involve working with the Ministry’s Road User Safety branch and the environmental office, among others. The relatively new Contracts and Documents joint committee is currently working to ensure a smooth transition to new delivery models such as design-build and construction manager-general contractor (CMGC).
